![]() Garth Matthews Garth was an excellent organizer and communicator that brought people and resources together to achieve significant results for the PEI Judo community. He worked as a tireless advocate to expand the sport of Judo in PEI. He acted as a Sensei for the Charlottetown YMCA Judo Club. He also co-founded the Bunbury Judo Club and was instrumental in the founding of the Summerside Judo Club. Garth served multiple terms on the Judo PEI Executive as President. He acted as Judo PEI’s Volunteer Coordinator for the 1991 Canada Winter Games. As such, he recruited PEI Judoka into the key positions needed and also successfully trained the large numbers of volunteers essential for the tournament. Garth organized Judo PEI’s first entry into the World Island Games Championships. He served as the Team Manager for the PEI contingent that travelled to the Isle of Wight in 1993. Garth served as a National Councilor with Judo Canada. He also acted as an Judo Canada official at the 1993 World Judo Championships held in Hamilton, Ontario. Garth helped raise the profile of Judo PEI both provincially and nationally. |
